For years, I have kept this wonderful prayer with my treasured writings of inspiration. I received a copy of it at a Kiwanis meeting, and am glad to pass it along yet again.
A New Day
This is the beginning of a new day.
God has given me this day to use as I will.
I can waste it—or use it for good,
but what I do today is important, because
I am exchanging a day of my life for it!
When tomorrow comes,
this day will be lost forever,
leaving in its place
something I have traded for it.
I want it to be gain, and not loss;
good, and not evil;
success and not failure;
in order that I shall not regret
the price I have paid for it.

I have not been able to find any background information on W. Heartsill Wilson. If you do, please let us know about him or her.
Our deceased 22 year old daughter had written Dr. Heartsill Wilson’s “this is the beginning of a new day” verse on blue line paper and attached it to her mirror. We established Memorial Scholarships in Christina’s name at Duncan High School and at Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma and have included this verse. I am happy to know the author of this verse that was so very meaningful to our beloved daughter. Thank you for sharing information about Mr. Wilson
I am so sorry for your loss. I’m glad you could re-experience your connection to your daughter through his wise words. My heart is with you. ❤️
